Por ordem superior se torna público que a Argélia aderiu, com efeitos a partir de 17 de Janeiro de 1997, à Convenção Internacional contra a Tomada de Reféns de 1979, tendo feito a reserva que se inclui.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION AGAINST THE TAKING OF HOSTAGES ADOPTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE UNITED NATIONS ON 17 DECEMBER 1979.
Accession by Algeria
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, acting in his capacity as depositary, communicates the following:
On 18 December 1996, the instrument of accession by the Government of Algeria to the above Convention was deposited with the Secretary-General.
The instrument of accession was accompanied by the following reservation:

«The Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria does not consider itself bound by the provisions of article 16, paragraph 1, of the International Convention against the Taking of Hostages, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 17 December 1979.
These provisions are not in accordance with the view of the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria that the submission of a dispute to the International Court of Justice requires the prior agreement of all the parties concerned in each case.»
In accordance with article 18 (2), the Convention entered into force for Algeria on the thirtieth day after the date of deposit of the instrument, i. e. on 17 January 1997.
